Client: City of Moonee Valley

Project Summary:

Jamie (while at Storm Consulting) tendered, technically led and project managed the development of this project.

Council were subject to consistent complaints regarding flooding downstream of Glenbervie Road.  The issue related to a somewhat trapped low points with an under-capacity pipe network.  Flows were exceeding the capacity of the road reserve and using the small space alongside the residential dwellings  to escape.  Given the tight space and damage to the dwelling, Council were pushed to investigate options.

Various solutions were explored and an under road retarding tank was selected as the least disruptive solution.  A low flow offtake was then directed into a raingarden within the local school ground.

The raingarden offered an education element to the project that benefited more then just council.

The flood mitigation solution actively resolved the flooding issue and reduced the impact of flows up to the 1 in 10 year event.

The end result achieves effective retardation and stormwater quality improvement in a highly constrained area and in a cost effective manner.

Key Features and Innovations:

  • Dual benefit outcome
  • Maintainable structures
  • And made it flow better
