Orana Development

Orana in Clyde North, is a residential and commercial development 46 kilometres south-east of the city of Melbourne. Clyde North was established over 100 years ago when a railway station was built south of the original Clyde township. Today, Orana in Clyde North is on track to become the biggest community in the South East of Melbourne, featuring over 4000+ homes, a vibrant shopping precinct, and more green space than Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens.

Orana’s 42 hectares of parks and waterways will comprise six local parks, three wetland reserves and several playing fields.

This will encourage the re-establishment of wildlife in the area, connect its residents to nature and provide an integrated stormwater harvesting scheme for the Cardinia Creek South PSP.

Our Involvement

Afflux has been involved from inception at Precinct Planning to construction and delivery. This has included Technical Review analysis at PSP panel, renegotiation of stormwater assets with various authorities, general stormwater management guidance, and specific advice for culvert design, underground drainage, roadway flows, waterway design, wetland modelling, consequence assessments, IWM and stormwater harvesting scheme.

This project has proved challenging at times; involving design of crucial, multi-million dollar assets, complex collaboration with authorities and developers to deliver an innovative regional stormwater harvesting scheme, and the requirement to cross the Desalination Pipeline. Nonetheless, it provided Afflux with the opportunity to create a custom, bespoke stormwater harvesting calculator to calculate interactions between sub-daily inflows to the wetland and interaction with the pumping system to the 17 regional sports facilities.

Afflux are immensely proud to be working on this project alongside Balcon Group, Verve, Three Seeds, Casey Council, Richard Rodd, Tonkin and Taylor, and Melbourne Water.

Outcome

  • Hydraulic modelling of a 14-hectare drainage reserve including a wetland that services a catchment of over 400 hectares
  • Hydraulic modelling and design of co-located wetland and attenuation system
  • Underground drainage modelling
  • Culvert design and analysis, including Bells Rd culverts designed to convey the 1% AEP
  • Design of regional SWH system
  • Consequence assessment and extreme hydrology assessment for ANCOLD
  • Collaboration with DECCA regarding crossing of desalination line
  • Drainage infrastructure to support all adjoining estates
